electronics and energy conservation products

hailands
technology sector, which prospered during the boom years of the 1990s,
has been on the back burner lately. Certainly, the past few years have
been tough because of adverse economic conditions and a dip in world demand.
But the countrys leading manufacturers are still there, supplying
the world with an increasingly sophisticated array of products and plotting
their next move.
Indeed, Thailand is now home to a new breed of technology firm. Those
companies that have survived the downturn have underscored the need for
quality, investing heavily in research and development (R&D) to add
value to their products.
Leonics Electronics, for example, is a privately-owned, Bangkok-based
business that specialises in making uninterruptible power supply equipment.

Samrerng
Kriengprathana,
chairman of Leonics, has set up new customer call centres to meet
rising demand |
Samrerng
Kriengprathana, the companys chairman, is keen to break
into new markets, including the ultra-competitive European theatre, in
the next year or so.
Under Mr Kriengprathanas leadership, the company has set out a global
vision: As the world consumes more electrical power, Leonics is
dedicated to providing its customers with products and services to secure
reliable electrical power efficiently, in an environmentally-friendly
way.
The company, established in 1991, has grown dramatically from a one-site
office and factory into one of Thailands most respected industry
players, with annual sales touching $5 million. Its range of high quality
products competes in the marketplace at intermediate prices.
R&D
has played an important role in this success. The company was the first
in Thailand to be awarded the prestigious ISO 9001 and ISO 9002 quality
certifications. It has won a string of top export awards along the way.
Leonics has already penetrated a number of regional markets, including
the Middle East, but demand is driving it further. Due to an increase
in its customer base, it recently established a dedicated service centre
to handle customer calls regarding its products.
